MSAND Member Discussion Board

MNAND is happy to announce the start of a member discussion board! We have created a private forum for MSAND members to communicate with each other to share resources, ask questions, and interact more. 

To subscribe to the discussion board simply send an email that contains your full name and Academy ID number to [email protected] and you will be approved shortly.

Once you are subscribed you can post directly from your email by sending your questions, resource, or discussion topic directly to [email protected]. The group has been quiet so far, but please don’t be shy! This was created for us to interact more effectively with each other.

Update from the South Central District
Our Christmas Party was Thursday, December 8th at Tabella’s! We enjoyed good food, good company, and a Dirty Santa game! Please be on the look out for the newsletters for information on our next CEU in the new year!

Mississippi Food Sumit

Mississippi Food Summit & Agricultural Revival was held at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum November 17-19, 2016 in Jackson, MS. It included three days of events: Mississippi Farm to Cafeteria Conference on November 17^th.  The Farmer to Farmer Conference on November 18^th, and the Mississippi Farmers Market with Local Farm and Garden Tours on November 19^th.

The Mississippi Farm to Cafeteria Conference included three tracks of breakout sessions with information for everyone. MS-AND members enjoyed going to sessions regarding “In the Garden and Classroom”, “Procurement”, “On the Farm” as well as the “Common Ground Youth Sessions”. Thursday evening was followed up with a networking reception, the Mississippi Food Policy Council Farm and Food Policy Forum and a screening and discussion of the 2014 film Food Chains.

Friday’s Farmer to Farmer Conference included panel discussions and breakout session tracks regarding “Preserving the Harvest”, “Business and Marketing”, “On the Farm”, “In the Garden”, “Common Ground Youth Sessions”, and “Farm Investments”. That evening was concluded with a Taste of Mississippi Dinner and a National Young Farmers Coalition Mixer and Seed Swap.

The Mississippi Farmers Market took place on Saturday at its regular location, 929 High Street in Jackson, MS. The Saturday farm tours included Cooperative Community of New West Jackson (Jackson), Rosemont Community Orchard (Jackson), We Will Go Ministries Community Garden (Jackson), Brown Elementary (Jackson), Footprint Farms (Jackson), Amorphous Gardens (Canton), Two Dogs Farm (Flora), and The Garden Farmacy (Bolton).

MSPQC Annual Meeting

The Mississippi Perinatal Quality Collaborative (MSPQC) 2016 Annual Meeting was held November 18, 2016, at the Hilton-Jackson. This well attended meeting included national experts from around the country who presented topics on strategies to reduce preterm birth and infant mortality, obstetric hemorrhage, delayed cord clamping, breastfeeding and safe sleep guidelines.

The MSPQC began in 2014 as a statewide partnership that promotes evidence-based quality improvement initiatives at the hospital and community level to improve birth outcomes across Mississippi.
